Secret for a Secret is built to be anonymous. You do not create an account, you never tell us your name, and nothing you write is tied to who you are. This page explains exactly what that means.
1What we collect
- The secrets you release. When you seal a secret, its text is stored so other people can catch and read it. It is stored with an anonymous identifier, never with your identity.
- An anonymous ID. The app signs you in anonymously through Firebase Authentication. This produces a random ID that lets the app remember which secrets are "yours" so it can show you your read and candle counts. It is not linked to any name, email, or device identity and cannot be used to contact you.
- Counts. For each secret: how many people read it, how many lit a candle for it, and how many reported it.
- On your device only. Your chosen scene, your keepsakes, your age confirmation, and your nightly progress are stored locally on your phone. They never leave it.
2What we do not collect
- Your name, email address, or phone number.
- Your contacts, location, photos, or microphone.
- Any profile, because there are no profiles.
- Advertising identifiers used to track you across other apps.
3Keeping secrets anonymous
Before a secret ever leaves your phone, we automatically remove or block anything that could identify a person — phone numbers, email addresses, links, and usernames. An automated screen then checks the text for spam, advertising, harassment, and explicit content. This screening looks only at the words of the secret, never at who wrote it.
4The services we rely on
- Google Firebase — hosts the anonymous sign-in and the database where secrets are stored. Google processes this data as our service provider. See Google's privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.
- Groq — runs the automated content screening. The text of a secret is sent for classification and is not stored by us alongside any identity.
5How long we keep things
Released secrets remain in the shared pool so others can continue to discover them. Because everything is anonymous, we cannot look up "your" secrets by name. If you want a specific secret removed, you can report it inside the app, or email us with enough detail to find it (see Support).
6Age requirement
Secret for a Secret is intended only for adults aged 18 or older. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect anything from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has used the app, contact us and we will act.
7Your choices
- Report any secret to have it reviewed and removed.
- Clear the app's local data by deleting the app from your device.
- Email us to request removal of a secret or to ask a question.
8Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles information, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Meaningful changes will be highlighted in the app.
